The charity is holding its first ever Tree of Light services at its Pease Pottage hospice to celebrate a year since welcoming its first patient to the hospice grounds.
Three services, at 11am, 2pm and 5pm, will be held outside St Catherine’s Hospice, between the reception and Woodgate Café Hub. The services, which are open to all and to people of all faiths and none, will go ahead in all weathers and include readings, music and stories of reflections.
At the heart of the non-religious services is a Tree of Light, adorned with hundreds of lights. People will also have the opportunity to hang a star in memory of someone they love and to write a message in the book of remembrance.
The services will be led by Selena King, St Catherine’s Spiritual Care Lead. Selena says: “Our Tree of Light services are a beautiful, poignant, and uplifting opportunity to remember someone you love. I would like to extend a warm welcome to people to come and experience this special event, held for the first time this year at our new hospice.
I look forward to us all being together in our shared experience of love and loss. Wherever you are on your journey of grief, please know that you are very welcome.”
Tree of Light services are free of charge and open to everyone, regardless of whether St Catherine’s has cared for someone they know. Spaces need to be booked in advance by visiting: www.stch.org.uk/tree-of-light-2024/ or calling St Catherine’s Fundraising Team on 01293 447361. Please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as each service has limited capacity.
