The South East M&A Barometer: Q2 2024 update

Key findings

While the majority of the UK saw a dip in deal activity in H1 2024, the South East is outperforming with a 24% increase in volume compared to this time last year. Here are our key findings: 

The South East bucked the UK trend with increased deal activity

  • Deal volumes increased in H1 2024 for high growth companies compared to the previous year

  • The South East was the most active region outside of London

Technology is dominating M&A activity in the South East

  • Over 85% of deals for high growth companies included technology-related businesses
  • The South East aligns with London on technology acquisitions

US investors are the biggest overseas investors of high growth companies

  • Deal volumes typically double those of Germany, France and Denmark, which are the other notable overseas investing countries
  • Overseas investments fall to pre-covid levels
