About Wolo
WOLO Foundation (We Only Live Once) helps to improve the quality of life of families living in Sussex on their cancer journeys. The bespoke support we offer includes practical help and emotional support, wellness opportunities and family experiences. We work with local businesses and communities to offer all family members a wealth of services to support them through their diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
Statistics show that 1 in 2 people in the UK born after 1960 will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Life is precious - we need to make the most of it - we only live once - WOLO!
Job Role
Supporting the smooth operation of Wolo, advising on operational matters and contributing to the overall governance of the charity. Taking the lead on events and projects. Sharing knowledge and attending regular Trustee meetings.
We are looking for new trustee(s) with experience in event planning, fundraising and sales to work with Team Wolo and help with these areas of the charity (with the potential of becoming the lead in these areas). The role would be discussed and agreed with you. These are the general duties of the Trustee role;

Attending regular Trustee meetings, updating the other trustees on anything you’re working on, advising on operational matters and sharing knowledge

Support the smooth running of WOLO and ensuring the organisation delivers against its aims. This may involve taking the lead on a project or event

Attend WOLO events and other external events/meetings and be a good representative of WOLO’s values

Attend training sessions when needed, these may include sessions run by other charities and/or The Charity Commission.

Support the co-founders when needed. This could be with small admin duties, representing them at functions etc

Work with and support the WOLO families
Person Specification
You should be able to demonstrate the following personal attributes:
-
Experience working as a Trustee for a charity would be a massive advantage. Training will be provided
-
Ability to apply experience gained elsewhere (gained through voluntary or paid employment) to help the efficient and effective running of WOLO
-
Have an understanding of cancer and how to support families going through their cancer journey
-
Diligent, good moral compass and enthusiastic about WOLO’s values and vision
-
Have an understanding of working in a regulated environment
-
Approachable/emphatic – you will be speaking to families that need our support who are going through a difficult time in their life
-
Organised and reliable
-
Adaptable
-
Good IT skills – able to use email (outlook or google), excel or numbers or word

Methodical in your approach to tasks

Good team player

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

General administrative experience

Experience in organising a variety of fundraising events

This is a voluntary role however we will be able to pay you reasonable expenses if you need to travel etc.
