Gatwick wants to invest in its long-term future and is preparing a planning application
(DCO) to bring its Northern Runway into routine use - alongside its Main Runway. This will be submitted in early summer.
This will unlock new capacity, improve resilience, and deliver new global connections - meeting future demand by growing the airport to around 75 million passengers a year by the late 2030s.
It will also boost the economy by helping support new jobs, tourism and trade.
The plan will generate more than 10,000 new jobs and inject over £1 billion into the region's economy each year.
The plans are also low impact, with most construction taking place within the airport boundary. The Northern Runway could be in regular use towards the end of the decade.
A noise envelope setting limits on the noise from future operations at the airport will also be put in place - alongside an enhanced noise insulation scheme - to give certainty to
residents that noise contours will be smaller by 2038 and beyond.
